3 Surefire Ways to Confront Fear (of Your Calling)

I can’t confront what I’m not willing to admit to myself.

Lately, I’ve been challenged by fear. I know I’ve read somewhere or heard on one of my SUCCESS cd’s that all the great leaders still experience fear.

Well, I’m definitely on my way to being a great leader because this past couple months, I’ve been cozying up with fear in the worst way! However, I’ve been doing my best to be cool and composed about how timid I really am.

I tried to laugh in the face of fear, but this time, fear laughed back?! I had to confront the truth: I’m afraid to GO out on the limb, of the next level, of my calling (with God). Click here for a list of Scriptures that can help you combat whatever you’re fearing.

Whether you know it or not,  a lot of what I’ve done with TiffyTalks LLC has been Holy Spirit inspired.

What does Holy Spirit inspired mean?

It means, God called me to leave my corporate sales career, to build the TiffyTalks platform and to go into the field of servant leadership. A field and role I didn’t know existed.

Are you familiar with Abraham in the Holy Bible?

Well, prior to his life being upgraded to “milk and honey” status, Abraham, previously known as Abram, was directed by God to GO and leave his hometown for a new land with new opportunities, and a new way of being! A new way of being that shifted his posture from self-reliance to God-reliance.

Here’s how it went down…

The LORD had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you. ~Genesis 12:1 NIV

In a nutshell, Abram aka Abraham was asked to TRUST God with all he had. Look, I’m not Abraham and I’m sure you are not either, but his story is definitely meant to be a catalyst for what it looks like to place one’s life and wellbeing in God’s hands.

Can you relate or at least imagine how crazy courageous it was for Abram to actually GO in the direction of his calling?

Well, I currently find myself having to GO, yet again, out on a new limb with God. Maybe you know what it feels like when the calling keeps calling you? As mentioned, much of what I’ve done through TiffyTalks; the blogging, being on social media, getting my business up and running –all unchartered and intimidating territory for me.

But, God has managed to keep me and limbs I’m standing on sturdy.

Now, I’m being called to continue on, to GO, to step out further! This Fall, I’m launching out in a new way -so I can reach more women (people) beyond the borders of Philadelphia.

I’m going online!

Well, technically I’m already online, but I’ll be taking my transformative group coaching model online via the #GetEngaged Academy.

The Academy will provide radical, yet relatable Online Programs for Women of Faith. I know as a woman of faith there are certain topics that I wish my church or my seminary experience would’ve gone into deeper. Like, “Why should I stop having sex until I’m married?” This is my way of addressing the day-to-day needs of women who are trying to find balance in their spiritual life.

Now, before I pressed the LAUNCH button on the #GetEngaged Academy, I had to confront how fearful I’ve been behind the scenes. It is my hope that as I confront my fears, you somehow find the courage to confront yours. Let me know if these 3 ways to confront fear of going out on a limb with God resonates with you.

3 Surefire Ways to Confront Fear (of Your Calling)

1. Get with God for the best coaching session of your life to confront the fear, self-doubt or intimidation you feel.

I swear, when I try to throw an elaborate pity party for myself God nudges me to call on the Squad (God, the Holy Spirit & Jesus) for a truthful reminder of how far I’ve come. And, to point me in the direction of where I should be going. In time, God always delivers a word to help me continue on. Please, don’t turn to people who haven’t been given the vision God gave you. Go to the Source! Pray, fast, write down the vision and continue to consult with God on the logistics of where you’re headed.

2. Get real with yourself on how afraid you are. Confront the truth and be willing to take the fear with you.

Abram didn’t wait until all his fear was gone to GO where God told him to go. The Scripture doesn’t bluntly say, “Abraham was afraid”, but it does indicate that Abram took his cousin Lot with him, and he was directed by God to leave his “people” behind. That tells me, he wasn’t really trying to travel into unknown territory without some sense of security. Abram had some fear or reservations about traveling without extended family. Lot was Abram’s security blanket, (along with the fear) that he took with him on the journey. Like Abram, you have to get it out of your mind that you have to be totally FEARLESS before you can step out on the limb with God.

3. Get stubborn about going the distance and seeing the promises of God.

Confront the fear by committing to practicing faith. One step at a time. One obedient act at a time. I’ve found, there’s something so powerful about exercising whatever amount of faith you have. Faith silences fear.

Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” ~Matthew 17:20 NIV

You can do the impossible with God. And, you and I have the power to stubbornly pursue every promise God says is ours. When you step out in faith, you begin to see how fear loses it’s power over you.

Now, off I go to finalize the details of the #GetEngaged Academy! If you’re all for learning more about building confidence, enhancing self-acceptance and exploring the possibilities of your purpose –don’t wait, sign up to be the first to receive the Academy’s course schedule.
