I don’t know about you, but I feel a strong pull to level up! –imme—diate–ly!
Let me explain why…
At about 9pm on Election Day, November 8th, 2016, I went into my guest room, sat on the edge of the bed, and turned on CNN. Within five minutes, I could sense Secretary Hillary Clinton would not be elected Madame President.
We talk and tweet about vibes, right?! Well, that’s the vibe I got.
So, I turned off the TV and headed to my bedroom to watch Crown on Netflix, very interesting by the way.
The next day, I woke up heavy bodied. Like something was trying to convince me to stay in the bed for the day. With my face in my pillow, I said to myself and God…
“Now what?” Then I heard, “I guess you’re going to have to keep doing what God created you to do.” The Voice of direction sounded so clear and resolute. Like, there’s no other viable choice, but to continue on STRONG!
I knew in that moment. It’s time to LEVEL UP!
Yes, the direction from God that morning was comforting to me. However, I still felt an emotional burden. I wanted a direct line to God, like a face-to-face convo about the larger issues at hand.
I was and I still am deeply concerned about the people who don’t have a sense of direction.
The ones who don’t know if God really cares about them and their future. Those who gave up on “HOPE” when President Obama’s leadership, still couldn’t put a dent in the systemic issues that plague America. Like Mass Incarceration and excessive police force towards black and brown folk (disproportionately black men), leading to many senseless deaths i.e. Eric Garner, Freddie Gray, Philando Castile, etc. etc. etc.
I believe many of those disheartened people said, “Count my vote out!” Please know, I don’t think holding back one’s vote is the answer, but I get it.
Now, since talking face-to-face with God wasn’t possible…
I decided to go to a special spot in my house to pray. Knelling down, I began to pour out my heart to God. I cried out for immigrants, black men and others who came to mind. After what seemed like hours, which it wasn’t, I finally dressed for the day and made my way out to face the world.
I left the house that day KNOWING this for sure: I have to continue doing what God has called me to do and I have to do it with more boldness and tenacity than ever before.
The season is ripe to LEVEL all the way UP!
How did you spend the day after the election? How about this past week? Maybe you were clicking your heels to have a business man, like Trump, in the Oval Office, as opposed to someone who has political experience?!
Either way, I want to emphasize why I believe the “switching of the guards” for a lack of better terms should inspire you to LEVEL UP too!
What does it mean to LEVEL UP?
Leveling up means to make a move in your personal or professional life for the better. Courage and Confidence Coach for Women Entrepreneurs, Carla M. Holden puts it this way…
“It’s simply about doing your personal best, not comparing yourself to anyone else EVER and staying as close to a state of appreciation as possible.” Click here to read more.
Let’s be clear, leveling up is all about action!
You must do something to get to better. This is not the time to slack or slumber. Scripture urges against both.
“A slack hand causes poverty, but the hand of the diligent makes rich.” -Proverbs 10:4 ESV
With Trump as President, we have entered into a significant time in history. An opportune time to wake up and stay woke! How do you this? #GetEngaged with GOD and SELF like you never have before.
When you #GetEngaged with God, your personal and professional best is possible, which positively impacts your family, friends and community.
God doesn’t want any of us to put all our trust in man. Yes, it’s wise to be aware of political matters. However, it’s essential to not lose sight of ‘the mark!’ A mark which was determined by God for you, prior to your birth (Psalm 139:16).
Let me put it this way, you were created by God to LEVEL UP! Not by the world’s standards, but by God’s standards.
And, know this, no President elect can change the divine call on your life, so get to it!
I’ve already expressed why leveling up is important to me. Now, I’ll give you a few reasons…
Why Trump as President Should Inspire You to Level Up
1. If you are African American, like me, consider this, President Obama didn’t get the respect he deserved from the President elect and many others throughout his two terms as President of the United States. Why? because racism is a systemic issue, which has been taught (accepted), and deeply embedded in the fabric of the American culture.
Racism is a beneficial evil to many. It keeps some groups of people higher up on the food chain and other groups of people oppressed.
Despite President Obama’s exceptional educational and professional background, he is still viewed as “just” a black man and an immigrant, by many ignorant people. By the way, the word ignorant means nigger. These misinformed people believe only certain whites are TRUE Americans, and everyone else is an immigrant of some sort, vacationing in American –forever!
It’s time for African Americans to GET BEYOND the need to be accepted by those who don’t view us as TRUE Americans or true human beings, for that matter. Instead, we should focus our efforts on healing from the generational traumas of slavery and from the psychological angst of being citizens in a country that treats us otherwise, while continuing to raise our fist and finances against the systems that aim to keep us collectively oppressed.
The truth is God loves you and the skin you’re in. God has written you into His powerful, eternal script. Don’t let the dark side of the American flag distract you. Focus on God, healing and leveling up!
2. If you want to have peace of mind and peace in your heart, regardless of who’s in office, #GetEngaged with God! I’m not talking about logging into your favorite e-church online every Sunday or excitedly attending your church home, just on Communion Sunday. I’m suggesting you get real with yourself and God. If you were emotionally jolted by Trump’s win, then you are the perfect candidate to #GetEngaged, NOW!
Call on God to show you the bigger picture and plan for your life, and don’t stop asking and working your faith, until you get direction.
3. You only LIVE once! This is your one shot to do life well. Can you really afford not to LEVEL UP? Complaining won’t give you the results you’re looking for, but checking in with yourself and committing to work your gifts with heart will.
Trust me, this call to action to LEVEL UP starts with me!
Effective immediately, I plan to offer more “real talk” on the challenges of being a woman of faith in the world, but not of the world via everything I do, especially via the #GetEngaged Academy online courses.
The other ways I’ll be leveling up will be revealed in the upcoming months. Stay tuned! Don’t forget to let me know how your week’s going and how this call to action — to LEVEL UP –speaks to you?
P.S. The #GetEngaged Academy launched on November 13th and the first online program, Self-Acceptance is LIFE! A 6 Step Process to Accepting Yourself was a hit! One attendee said, “I got the answers I needed.” If you desire to be truly happy and level up in your personal and professional life, accepting yourself is key.
